How To Meet New People In Qatar

How To Meet New People In Qatar

Living abroad is a unique experience, and no matter how exciting it may be, it doesn’t change the fact that it’s also challenging and perhaps a little intimidating.

You may have sorted out all work-related issues and found a home you love, but what happens with meeting new people?

Being expats ourselves, we have come across this issue, and we can advise on the best way to approach it. Sure, the best thing would be to meet your friends’ friends, that could be a start, but what happens when you know no one in your new city?

Well, there are ways to meet new people; we’ve been there, and it’s only a matter of time.

1. Find an activity you enjoy

Think about the activities that you want to practice or the hobbies that excite you the most. Are you planning to hit the gym? Take on Pilates classes? A new language? Or perhaps you’re eager to learn how to take the best photos?

Qatar is introducing a range of activities for its residents, from theatre classes and photography sessions to fitness and language centers.

Most of them are well connected on social media, so once you find the activity you’re interested in, have a look at their social media profiles and connect.

For example, if you’re a blogger or a writer, you should join Qatar Bloggers or Qatar Writers Group on Facebook. It’s a great way to connect with like-minded people. What is more, now and then, the group’s admin arrange meet-ups for members.

2. Join local Facebook Pages

Doha is known for its rich culinary scene; from word-class restaurants to popular fast-food chains, the country is home to delicious flavors. And we’re sure you’ve heard the common sayings… ‘Food connects people’ or ‘Food brings people closer.’ That is so true. Doha Foodies is the city’s most popular Facebook group for foodies, created for people who love food and are keen to learn what’s in the spotlight in Doha’s food scene weekly, more tips on cooking or learn new recipes. At the same time, it’s a great way to connect with like-minded people, exchange messages, and- why not- arrange a visit to a local restaurant.

3. Join Two Fat Expats, the expats group with worldwide exposure

This group is one of the best. It’s a community of expats based worldwide and a great way to discuss relevant issues. Feel free to initiate a meet-up in Doha; you’ll be surprised by how many people will react positively. ‘We are all in this together’!

4. Join local communities for a greater good
